Freeway Fleet Systems has developed a smart software application to help reduce unnecessary Vehicle Off Road (VOR) levels. The handy app gives engineers on the workshop floor instant insight into all defects reported by drivers during their first-check inspections. It also allows managers to make quick and informed decisions on how and when to best rectify the defect. The development is part of a new version of Freeway’s fleet maintenance management system that also includes key enhancements to the engineers’ mobile app and parts management.
The defect management app allows managers to assess the seriousness of a driver-reported defect and whether it is critical enough to require immediate rectification. The system provides real-time information of a multitude of variables such as workshop capacity, available workshop staff, skills and parts. This enables engineers to quickly self-select work and allows managers to oversee activity ensuring that the right staff are assigned to resolve issues quickly.
“Drivers are obliged to report all defects before they set out and this creates a daily headache for the workshop. Defects often turn out not to be critical; work that can be done another day or fixed in 10 minutes by a fitter. This new defect management feature in Freeway arms management and the workshop with all the information they need to make the best decision and avoid unnecessary delays to getting a vehicle on the road,” says Patrick Tandy, MD of Freeway Fleet Systems.
The latest version of Freeway’s software is a major new release bringing a wide range of new features to not only manage defects more effectively, but also deliver greater asset visibility and support offline working. New features includes additional options to classify defect states such as the ability to defer defects due to part or labour shortages, or to cancel defects in the case of no faults found.
The new release also includes support for default order items and serialised parts. Users can add default order lines for specific suppliers, saving time and effort with repeat orders. This release also sees the addition of serialised parts – allowing users to have separate transaction lines and tracking for specific items, delivering a much more granular and accurate order process.
